Job description

About Phathom Pharmaceuticals

Phathom Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company focused on changing how gastrointestinal (GI) diseases are treated. The company holds exclusive rights in the United States, Europe, and Canada for vonoprazan, a first-in-class potassium-competitive acid blocker (PCAB), and is building therapies aimed at acid-related conditions.

Its marketed portfolio includes VOQUEZNA tablets for heartburn linked to non-erosive GERD, as well as healing and maintenance of erosive GERD; VOQUEZNA TRIPLE PAK and VOQUEZNA DUAL PAK for H. pylori infection in adults. The organization is also developing additional treatments for other acid-related GI disorders, including eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).

The company describes itself as purpose-driven, innovative, and collaborative, with a team of GI and industry experts working to address unmet medical needs and improve patient outcomes. It emphasizes a fast-paced environment where motivated problem-solvers can contribute meaningfully. Phathom was certified as a Great Place to Work in August 2025, with 91% of surveyed employees saying it is an exceptional workplace.

Role Summary

The Territory Sales Representative will own sales performance across an assigned geography, working to meet or exceed targets while complying with company and regulatory standards. The role involves building a strong understanding of customer needs, coordinating relevant support and pull-through efforts, and developing deep knowledge of the product and disease state to engage healthcare professionals effectively.

Reporting to the Regional Sales Manager, the representative will promote the company’s first product to gastroenterologists, advanced practice practitioners, and selected primary care physicians within the territory. Success in the position depends on close collaboration with peers, regional leaders, and commercial teams to support territory, regional, and company objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver or surpass assigned sales targets within the territory.
  • Maintain strong expertise in the product and related disease area to lead clinical conversations with gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, APPs, and office personnel.
  • Develop a clear understanding of territory trends and access opportunities, and improve pull-through by communicating effectively with HCPs and their staff.
  • Partner with the Regional Sales Manager and Strategic Account Specialists to create and execute territory business plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in sales, marketing, training, and operations to support execution and share effective practices.
  • Handle administrative duties accurately, including CRM updates and expense submissions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • At least 2 years of successful medical sales experience, such as in dental, medical devices, laboratory, or diagnostics, or at least 1 year of pharmaceutical sales experience.
  • GI specialty experience is preferred.
  • A consistent history of strong sales performance is necessary.
  • Prior experience bringing new products to market is required.
  • Ability to use marketing, market access pull-through, and technology tools effectively.
  • Strong commercial judgment and analytical capability.
  • Comfort building professional relationships with office staff and broader customer networks.
  • Proven effectiveness in both in-person and virtual customer interactions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, changing environment.
  • Solid technical aptitude and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint, plus digital meeting tools such as Veeva Engage, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record are required.
  • Some overnight travel within the territory may be necessary depending on geography.
  • Travel to national, regional, and corporate offices may also be required.

Core Values

  • Perseverance: staying committed and overcoming obstacles through determination and effort.
  • Humble: putting others first, staying grounded, and allowing results to speak for themselves.
  • Accountable: taking ownership, acting reliably, and being responsible for results.
