About Environment Canterbury

Environment Canterbury is the regional council responsible for managing natural resources such as air, soil, water, and land in the Canterbury region. Working collaboratively with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu, the organisation strives to protect the environment’s health to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future. Role Overview

The Team Leader IT Service Delivery will manage a dedicated team tasked with providing outstanding IT support and services across Environment Canterbury. This leadership position merges operational excellence with strategic planning to guarantee IT services are dependable, customer-centric, and aligned with organisational goals. Collaboration with Digital Solutions leadership will be essential to drive continual service improvements, oversee critical technology resources, asset and license management, and uphold modern service management standards. Additionally, inspiring and nurturing a high-performing team and contributing to the digital service strategy will be key aspects.

Primary Duties

  • Lead and oversee all end-user IT support and service management activities.
  • Promote continuous refinement of IT service management processes and practices.
  • Monitor and manage incident, request, and overall service delivery performance against established service levels.
  • Coordinate vendor relationships, contract administration, and technology asset management.
  • Develop a motivated, high-achieving team through coaching, mentoring, and professional growth opportunities.

The successful candidate will be a people-oriented IT leader focused on delivering exceptional customer experiences through high-quality IT services. They should possess a comprehensive understanding of IT service management frameworks, thrive in complex and adaptive environments, and skillfully balance strategic imperatives with daily operational demands. Strong collaboration and influence skills to foster trusted relationships across all organisational levels are essential, alongside a passion for people development and process enhancement to enable optimal performance.%

Experience and Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
  • Extensive experience in leading IT Service Delivery or ICT operations areas, with a minimum of five years in leadership roles.
  • Proven expertise in managing and developing technical teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) frameworks including ITIL and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience managing IT assets, licensing, vendors, and service providers.
  • Proficiency in engaging and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with service management and release management processes and supporting ITSM tools.
  • Competence in managing budgets, contracts, and collaborating with various organisational stakeholders.
