Our content leadership is about to take a planned absence. To maintain the quality and strategic direction during this period and beyond, we're seeking a seasoned Senior Content Editor. Beginning as a contract role, this position provides an opportunity to transition into a permanent senior editorial role, complete with benefits, contingent on performance.

This role demands quick adaptation and autonomy. You'll receive thorough onboarding, clear documentation of our editorial strategy, and collaborate with an experienced content team. Immediate impactful contribution is expected—there is no extended acclimation period.

Our clientele are established businesses generating $1.5 million or more in annual revenue, committed to growth through clear, strategic marketing communication focused on business driving results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Critically evaluate strategy documents such as content briefs, keyword plans, and funnel designs prior to any content creation, ensuring they align with target audience and conversion goals, identifying and rectifying any inaccuracies early.
  • Ensure drafts flawlessly align with the given strategy by verifying persona appropriateness, call-to-action coherence with funnel stages, and fulfillment of targeted search intent.
  • Develop and implement editorial standards to address consistent writing issues, absent tone guidelines, or process gaps, collaboratively engaging leadership and team members to ensure effective adoption.
  • Identify missed ranking opportunities by analyzing search engine results pages (SERPs) and recommend structural or keyword adjustments to capture features such as snippets or keyword clusters.
  • Conduct thorough quality assurance on content before publication, including clarity, flow, tone, accuracy, brand voice, internal linking, metadata, and formatting; work towards formalizing QA protocols.
  • Provide constructive, detailed feedback to writers aimed at improving strategic alignment and writing impact, fostering continuous skill advancement.

Growth and Opportunity

This role emerges from rapid department expansion exceeding current editorial leadership capacity. Beyond interim coverage, the position offers the chance to shape and enhance the editorial framework, including standards, quality assurance, and feedback mechanisms that support scalable, high-quality output. Progression into leadership with mentoring and managing editors is anticipated, supported by direct mentorship from the content director.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of five years' experience editing strategic marketing content in dynamic environments, with expertise in SEO content, landing pages, email, and PPC materials, always with an eye to performance outcomes.
  • Fluent in critiquing SEO strategies—keyword selection, intent mapping, funnel logic, content architecture—and confident in independent editorial decision-making during director absence.
  • Self-driven yet collaborative, capable of fast trust-building with writers, strategists, and project managers through feedback that is both direct and empathetic.
  • Demonstrates readiness for increased responsibility beyond current roles, with prior informal leadership in mentoring and process development.

Contract Terms and Benefits
