Job description

About the Role

Our current content department head will soon be taking a planned leave, and we need a seasoned senior editor to maintain strategic direction and quality during this period and continue elevating standards upon her return. This position begins as a contract role with an opportunity to transition into a full-time position based on performance. The contract phase acts as a mutual trial; success here can lead to a permanent senior editorial position featuring a comprehensive benefits package.

Given the fast-approaching timeline, the candidate must quickly get up to speed and work independently. You will receive thorough onboarding, documented strategies, and a skilled team, but there won’t be a lengthy adjustment period.

About RGX

RGX is a digital marketing agency dedicated to home service companies such as HVAC, pest control, plumbing, electrical, and related trades essential to households. Our clients are well-established businesses generating over $1.5 million in annual revenue and proactively investing in growth.

We assist serious service providers in becoming clearer about their offerings, more precise in targeting their audience, and more compelling in their messaging. Our approach is strategy-driven; every sentence must serve the businesses we represent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate content strategy before writing begins by thoroughly reviewing briefs, keyword plans, and funnel strategies to ensure proper targeting and logic.
  • Ensure all drafts align with the intended strategy, verifying that copy appropriately addresses the personas, calls-to-action fit the funnel stages, and content satisfies targeted search intent.
  • Develop editorial standards proactively when gaps or recurring issues are identified; collaborate with leadership and teams to gain consensus and implement fixes collectively.
  • Identify additional ranking opportunities missed in briefs by analyzing search engine result pages and suggesting content adjustments, including formatting or keyword integration.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality control prior to publication, evaluating clarity, flow, tone, accuracy, branding, internal linking, metadata, and formatting; contribute to formalizing QA processes to ensure consistency.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to writers focused on improving their work with actionable insights and strategic context.

Qualifications and What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum five years’ experience editing strategic marketing content such as SEO materials, landing pages, emails, and PPC assets within an agency or similarly dynamic setting, emphasizing performance-driven editing.
  • Strong ability to critically analyze SEO strategy documents, identifying flaws in keyword research, intent mapping, funnel logic, and content architecture.
  • Capable of working autonomously and confidently making editorial decisions during the director’s absence, supported by thorough documentation of decisions.
  • Collaborative and personable team player who provides feedback that inspires trust and fosters improvement rather than discouragement.
  • Desire to take on increased responsibility including leadership roles such as mentoring writers, establishing processes, and directly contributing to department growth.

Future Opportunities

This role is created to handle immediate interim leadership but is designed to expand as our editorial team grows. Successful candidates will help establish editorial standards, quality assurance protocols, and feedback systems to support scaling without loss of quality. This position has potential for advancement to a leadership role involving mentoring and managing editors alongside ongoing learning from our content director.

Terms and Benefits

  • Initial engagement is on a contract basis, transitioning to a full-time role contingent on evaluation of contract performance.
  • This is a fully remote role requiring significant overlap with U.S. Eastern Time working hours for effective collaboration.
  • Competitive contract compensation aligned with experience, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 per month.
  • Upon conversion to full-time, the package includes salary, benefits, paid time off, and a budget for professional development.
