Staff Nurse - Pediatric Urgent Care

Overview

The Staff Nurse will deliver both direct and indirect pediatric-specific care within the Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic during assigned shifts. This role demands professional nursing practice ensuring safe, quality care aligned with the Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, including International Patient Safety Goals and other national and international healthcare mandates.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care tailored specifically to pediatric age groups through comprehensive nursing processes.
• Conduct detailed, problem-focused assessments using age-appropriate techniques for patients and their families.
• Continuously evaluate physical and psychological needs of patients and their families.
• Engage patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare providers in care planning.
• Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care.
• Plan, prioritize, and coordinate critical care pathways customized to patient needs, revising plans when necessary.
• Manage safe patient transfers and recognize early warning signs to prevent complications.
• Maintain thorough documentation as per hospital and department protocols.
• Ensure availability and upkeep of clinical supplies and equipment.
• Perform administrative duties as required and participate in mandatory JCI educational activities including safety and infection control.
• Contribute actively to staff meetings, unit committees, and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Uphold a safe clinical environment for patients and staff.
• Safely handle and administer narcotics and controlled substances following policy guidelines.
• Fulfill unit competency requirements including pain management and emergency device usage.
• Stay current with clinical knowledge and best practice standards through ongoing education.
• Support continuous quality improvement by collecting data, reporting incidents and medication errors, and addressing customer feedback.
• Perform additional duties as assigned within the unit.
• Specific interventions include emergency care for pediatric sepsis, oral medication administration across pediatric ages, calculating fluid needs, performing pediatric ECGs, and obtaining blood cultures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum three years full-time) or a two-year Nursing degree along with Registration as a Registered Nurse from recognized countries including Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
• UAE nationals with degrees from UAE/non-UAE universities are exempt from experience and clinical training prerequisites; proof of nationality required.
• Non-UAE nationals graduating from UAE universities must complete six months clinical training in an accredited health facility, except Registered and assistant nurses.
• Valid nursing license/registration in home or last employment country is mandatory.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within six months from employment via the hospital's course.
• Preference for candidates with Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) certifications.

Experience

• At least two years of recent clinical experience in Pediatric Urgent Care Nursing.
• Proficient in assessing and addressing physical and psychological needs according to pediatric developmental stages.
• Demonstrated skill in care coordination, prioritization, and individualized patient management.
