About Corlann and Orchard Services

Corlann – West Region offers a community-oriented, person-centered service that supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities in County Galway. Their mission is to enable individuals to lead fulfilling and valued lives within their communities, aligned with best practices nationally and globally. The approach involves partnering closely with the individuals, their families, and communities to foster meaningful social inclusion, personal choice, and skill development.

Orchard Adult Services delivers a variety of community-based supports including day services, residential care, respite, outreach, family assistance, and multidisciplinary support. Support settings vary from group day centers to individual supported employment and residential homes tailored to diverse needs and abilities, including those with autism. The service emphasizes individual autonomy, social connections, and fostering valued roles in community life.

Role Overview

Corlann is seeking motivated, innovative Staff Nurses and Enhanced Nurses to join their team at Orchard Adult Services in Gort. The nurses fulfill a key worker role, actively supporting adults with intellectual disabilities to exercise independence, develop skills, and make informed life choices. They contribute collaboratively to person-centered planning and promote community participation through creative and inclusive methods.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as supportive key workers and advocates focused on individual capabilities and positive skill-building.
  • Assist in creating and implementing person-centered plans that emphasize autonomy and personal growth.
  • Encourage community involvement and enable positive risk-taking to support informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, individuals, and families to optimize quality of life.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current live registration with NMBI (An Bord Altranais), holding RNID or RGN qualifications.
  • Full clean manual driving license essential; Class D1 license may be required with support provided to obtain if needed.
  • Prior experience or understanding of supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred; comprehensive training is provided.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and confidentiality skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including sensitive engagement with families.
  • Creative problem-solving and ability to work independently while utilizing multidisciplinary resources.
  • Flexibility, patience, creativity, and eagerness to participate in a wide range of activities.
  • Competence in health promotion education for staff and family members.
  • Commitment to a team environment aligned with person-centered philosophies; participation in planning, reviews, meetings, and training is expected.

Work Conditions and Terms

  • Positions: 1 permanent full-time and 1 temporary full-time, each working 75 hours over a fortnight on a 14-day/night rotating schedule.
  • Flexibility required to cover day, evening, weekend, night, public holiday, and program hours to meet service demands.
  • Annual leave entitlement of 24 days pro-rata; additional service-related leave granted after 5 and 10 years.
  • Probationary period of nine months, with the possibility of extension; employment may be terminated during probation if unsatisfactory.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Staff Nurse salary range: €38,166 to €54,956 per annum pro-rata; long service increment of €56,592 after 3 years at max scale.
  • Enhanced Nurse salary range: €45,259 to €56,762 per annum pro-rata; long service increment of €58,424 after 3 years at max scale.
  • Incremental progression based on verified prior nursing service.
  • Additional payments for weekends, public holidays, sleep-ins and night duties.
  • Location allowance of €2,637 per annum pro-rata where majority served have severe/profound intellectual disability.

Additional Information

The Enhanced Nurse role requires application and qualification beyond Staff Nurse level, with eligibility beginning at point 4 of the Staff Nurse salary scale.
