About Corlann and the Role

Corlann – West Region provides community-based, person-centered support to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to enable these individuals to lead valued, fulfilling lives within their communities according to best national and international practices. The services promote ordinary and inclusive life experiences, fostering connections with family and friends, and supporting people to live life on their own terms.

The positions are located at Deerpark Adult Services in Ballinasloe, County Galway, within either residential or day service settings. Initially, employees will work in a specific area but may be reassigned based on future service requirements.

Responsibilities

As a Support Worker, you will assist individuals with intellectual disabilities in all daily living activities, emphasizing their strengths and encouraging independence and skill development. Responsibilities include supporting personal outcomes, enabling participation in community life through innovative and inclusive approaches, and managing personal care tasks such as meals, household duties, intimate care, and physical well-being.

Supervision and Reporting

Support Workers report to the Social Care Worker, Staff Nurse, Team Leader, or Team Manager depending on their work location.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Good general education is required; a recognized qualification in intellectual disability care or a FETAC Level 5 course is advantageous. A QQI Level 5 or higher certification is preferred.
  • Possession of a full, clean manual driving licence valid for manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads is mandatory. If necessary, candidates may need to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence, with support provided for this qualification.
  • Experience with people having intellectual disabilities, autism, complex needs, behaviors of concern, or physical disabilities is beneficial, though training and induction will be provided.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, the ability to work well in a team, patience, and a good sense of humor.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, along with competency in IT skills.

Working Hours and Conditions

  • Two permanent full-time roles totaling 78 hours per fortnight.
  • Residential posts operate on a 14-day duty roster including evenings, weekends, occasional split duties, sleep-ins, and night shifts to meet service needs.
  • Day service roles follow a 5-day roster with working hours from 8 am to 8 pm.
  • The service model is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring flexible working hours to deliver quality support tailored to each individual.

Annual Leave and Remuneration

  • Annual leave entitlement is 23 days per year (pro-rata for part-time), equivalent to 8.46 hours for every 100 hours worked.
  • The salary follows Department of Health scales (as of 01/06/2026), ranging from €34,881 up to €47,624 annually pro rata, based on a 39-hour working week.
  • A Long Service Increment of €48,434 pro rata applies after three years at the top of the scale.
  • Additional payments are made for weekends, public holidays, sleepovers, and night duty as applicable.
  • Incremental credit may be granted for verified previous public sector experience.

Employment Terms

  • Posts are permanent, full-time, and pensionable.
  • A selection panel may be formed for future permanent, temporary, or fixed-term appointments at Deerpark Services over 6 to 12 months.
  • A probation period of nine months applies, during which employment may be terminated if the candidate is deemed unsuitable. Extensions to probation may occur at management’s discretion.
