About the Role

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is offering a full-time permanent position for a Specialist Healthcare Scientist within the Immunology (Specialist Blood Sciences) department based at Leicester Royal Infirmary. This role involves working in an ISO 15189:2022 accredited Immunology department, providing access to a wide range of routine and specialized immunology tests essential for diagnosing and managing autoimmune diseases, allergies, immunodeficiencies, and hematological cancers.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality immunology investigations, utilizing specialist scientific and technical knowledge of immunological techniques. They must efficiently organize and prioritize laboratory work while maintaining clear communication and time management within the UK NHS Immunology Laboratory setting. Participation in an on-call weekend rota, Saturday shifts, and bank holiday duties is required.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should have substantial experience in immunology along with specialist scientific and technical expertise in immunological methods. HCPC registration is mandatory. Biomedical Scientists should have completed or be near completion of the IBMS Specialist Immunology portfolio or its equivalent. Clinical Scientists must hold or be within three months of completing an STP in Immunology. Candidates without HCPC registration may be considered under Annex 21 conditions provided they present proof of completed training and a SMART plan to fulfill outstanding requirements.

Working Hours and Conditions

This is a full-time role requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Additional weekend and holiday shifts are part of the operational schedule.
