Job description

About the Role

This position involves more than typical project management; it focuses on leading the design of future finance capabilities within a government context prior to technology implementation. You will operate within a large-scale enterprise transformation initiative, overseeing the governance, planning, and delivery of a future-state finance operating model. This role requires collaboration across finance, business, and project teams to define processes, controls, and systems that promote long-term organizational goals.

You will engage with diverse government stakeholders to ensure business processes, financial controls, and system requirements comply with legislative mandates, accounting standards, and operational necessities. The role demands strategic leadership extending beyond delivery to include governance discipline and consensus-building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the planning, governance, and execution of finance transformation activities within a significant ERP program.
  • Create and oversee integrated project plans, governance structures, key milestones, and program reporting mechanisms.
  • Lead a cross-functional team to articulate future finance capabilities, including process design and documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to secure alignment among finance, business, and technology groups, ensuring quality throughout the delivery process.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven track record managing extensive government finance transformation projects, preferably spanning multiple finance domains.
  • Deep knowledge of government financial management, accounting standards, budgeting, reporting, and finance operating models.
  • Experienced in project leadership with structured methodologies such as PRINCE2 and familiarity with Managing Successful Programmes (MSP).
  • Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, governance, and influencing decision-making in complex settings.

Technology and Environment

  • Enterprise Finance Transformation and ERP environments
  • Government Financial Management and Accounting Frameworks
  • Project methodologies: PRINCE2 and MSP, with enterprise project governance experience
  • Expertise in finance value streams, business process design, and future-state operating model development

Additional Information

The role requires balancing leadership with finance expertise, governance, and stakeholder collaboration. This is a hybrid position based in Canberra supporting a major government finance transformation program. Australian citizenship is mandatory for security vetting; no prior clearance is needed. The initial contract is valid until 30th June 2027.
