Job Overview

The role of Category Manager at SPAR KwaZulu-Natal is centered on optimizing profitability in accordance with the company's marketing policies. The objective is to ensure availability of the correct products in the right quantities and at appropriate prices to meet sales targets, gross profit goals, and stock budgets.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage in negotiations with suppliers' sales representatives while maintaining detailed records of all supplier interactions.
  • Secure competitive retail pricing and budgeted gross profits for both Distribution Center (D.C.) and retail outlets through effective deal-making and price negotiations.
  • Support retail outlets by providing guidance on store standards, specifications, product ranging, pricing strategies, and promotional activities.
  • Achieve set sales, stock, and gross profit targets while reducing stockouts to a minimum.
  • Manage promotional activities aimed at driving sales in retail stores.
  • Oversee product range selections, incorporating seasonal products as necessary.

Knowledge and Competency Requirements

  • Completion of Matric certificate is mandatory.
  • Comprehensive understanding of purchasing systems and procedures is essential.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required; completion of a negotiation course is advantageous.
  • Adept at working under pressure and embracing challenges.
  • Demonstrates initiative, urgency, and innovation in overcoming business obstacles.
  • Qualification requirement: A degree in Business or Commerce, or a relevant diploma; background in Marketing or Supply Chain Management is beneficial.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with experience in coaching, mentoring, and training team members.
  • Preferably a minimum of five years' experience in buying roles.
