Job description

Role Overview

As the designated Named Professional for Safeguarding Adults, you will serve as the principal operational lead for safeguarding within the hospital setting. Your role is pivotal in promoting the early detection and management of safeguarding concerns by providing strong leadership, expert knowledge, educational guidance, and implementing best safeguarding practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the hospital authority on safeguarding adults, covering areas such as self-neglect, domestic abuse, the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), and PREVENT.
  • Hold primary operational accountability for MCA-related activities at the hospital, collaborating closely with the Associate Director of Safeguarding at the group level.
  • Supervise and manage the hospital's safeguarding adults team, including conducting appraisals, providing professional supervision, and fostering team development.
  • Offer expert consultations and support to clinical personnel to ensure that safeguarding concerns are appropriately identified, reported, and escalated following the correct procedures.
  • Lead the rollout and monitoring of safeguarding policies, training programs, and annual audits in accordance with the Care Act 2014.
  • Participate in Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) and Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), contributing to learning dissemination and overseeing the implementation of action plans alongside Directors of Nursing.
  • Administer a designated budget and represent the hospital at various multi-agency meetings including local Safeguarding Adults Board sessions.
  • Function as a core member of the Whipps Cross safeguarding team, sharing Named Nurse duties for adult safeguarding three days a week in partnership with the substantive Named Professional to ensure continuous leadership throughout the week.
  • Dedicate two days weekly to enhancing safeguarding practices hospital-wide, collaborating with the broader trust safeguarding team to support the all-age safeguarding strategy.
