Position Overview

The Senior Innovation Lead plays a crucial role in the Financial Product & Innovation (FPI) team, responsible for leading complex financial product strategies, development, and lifecycle management. This role involves aligning products with business strategy, driving innovation, and delivering value to customers, partners, and EDC. The position balances strategic insight, customer needs understanding, and cross-functional collaboration while embedding risk management and governance principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and utilize data systems to evaluate financial product performance and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Conduct comprehensive product assessments incorporating customer needs, market trends, and risks, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Explore product enhancement options including repositioning, consolidation, transition, or retirement with detailed impact analysis.
  • Lead discovery and innovation processes through priority setting, hypothesis testing, and market validation.
  • Establish product vision, strategy, and roadmaps in alignment with corporate priorities.
  • Create business cases and decision support materials to facilitate investment and strategic choices.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and partners to define product requirements, design, implementation plans, and scalability.
  • Oversee new or enhanced product design focusing on user experience, pricing, risk profile, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate pilot programs and market launch activities with clear metrics and dependencies.
  • Embed organizational risk frameworks into product lifecycle decisions, managing risks and escalations appropriately.
  • Maintain governance standards for product tools and methodologies ensuring audit defensibility and consistency.
  • Engage stakeholders at all levels, fostering collaboration and representing customer interests in decision-making.
  • Support leadership through coaching, mentorship, and promoting accountability for strong product outcomes.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in product management, innovation, financial services, or solution delivery.
  • In-depth understanding of financial products such as lending, insurance, guarantees, equity, and international trade.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and research skills to transform insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Customer-focused approach prioritizing product value and solving meaningful user needs within cross-functional environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
  • Advanced degrees such as an MBA or professional designations like CPA or CFA.
  • Certifications in product management methodologies or exposure to modern frameworks like Agile.
  • Experience in financial services innovation, public sector, consulting, fintech, or international organizations.

Work Environment and Location

  • Hybrid work model with a current requirement of two days per week at the office, increasing to three days starting September 2026.
  • Work locations include EDC headquarters in Ottawa or Community Hubs in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver.
  • Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range approximately from $112,006 to $149,341, dependent on qualifications and experience.
