Job description

Role overview

This position sits within the nursing team in an inpatient hospital environment, where the post holder will deliver personal nursing support and a range of clinical tasks to patients.

Working under the guidance and delegation of a Registered Nurse, the role may also involve helping assess care needs and carrying out planned care. A key part of the job is accurately recording physiological measurements and noting any changes in a patient’s condition.

The successful person must work within Trust standards, follow relevant policies, and stay within the limits of their role and demonstrated competence.

What you will do

  • Deliver hands-on, person-focused care in line with individual patient needs and Trust procedures, including washing, dressing, oral care, and support with toileting and continence needs while encouraging independence wherever possible.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships, and communicate clearly by sharing accurate information and using suitable approaches to overcome communication barriers, such as reassurance, empathy, persuasion, and visual prompts.
  • Complete training required to carry out clinical tasks to a high standard and remain competent in procedures such as clinical observations, blood glucose checks, urinalysis, and venepuncture.

About the department

The Outpatient Dermatology Department at Torbay Hospital offers a range of clinics and treatments for both surgical and inflammatory patients.

The team is currently going through service restructuring and introducing new ways of working, along with the development of new services. This is described as a strong opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking person to join a supportive setting, learn new skills, and help shape improvements in how care is delivered.

The role also offers exposure to dermatology sub-specialties, including surgery and inflammatory care, while working alongside nurse specialists and consultant teams.

Working environment

The organisation promotes a positive workplace culture and places importance on staff health and wellbeing.
