About the Role
We seek a senior Health & Safety leader to join our team, with flexibility to be based in Auckland, Tauranga, or Christchurch. This pivotal position focuses on leading the national Health & Safety Advisory function, offering vision, guidance, and alignment across a skilled team of H&S Advisors. The role is essential for embedding best practices that promote safe, high-quality operational performance across HEB.
Working closely with the National Health & Safety Manager, Executive leadership, senior stakeholders, and operational leaders, you will influence organizational learning from incidents and enhance the capabilities of the advisory function. You will also ensure that our health and safety assurance, as a key second line of defense, continues to evolve and sets industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a team of six experienced Health & Safety Advisors located across multiple sites, fostering a cohesive, high-functioning advisory group.
- Engage and influence senior project and company leadership to improve safety outcomes and promote safety culture.
- Drive best-practice health and safety methodologies and contribute strategically to the ongoing development of HEB’s health and safety framework.
- Lead critical risk management efforts, assurance processes, and ongoing enhancement initiatives.
- Supervise incident investigations ensuring actionable insights and facilitating organizational learning.
- Administer key health and safety programs and initiatives aligned with business objectives.
- Track, analyze, and report on safety performance, offering strategic insights to support decision-making.
- Promote a culture of engagement, responsibility, and proactive safety leadership at all organizational levels.
Candidate Profile
- Substantial experience leading health and safety teams within construction or civil infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record in managing and developing dispersed teams of Health & Safety professionals.
- Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders and influence enterprise-wide safety outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and critical risk management concepts.
- Capacity to balance strategic leadership with practical, hands-on site presence.
- Outstanding communication, coaching, and stakeholder relationship management skills.
