Job description
Overview
Susquehanna’s Sports Analytics group develops statistical forecasting tools that support liquidity in the sports betting market. These models help shape trading approaches and guide decisions about the likelihood and spread of game outcomes. This role sits within a team that combines a strong interest in mathematics, gaming, and technology.
Role Summary
As a quantitative sports researcher, you will explore sports analytics and quantitative trading research, test ideas against real-world market data, build programs that turn models and strategies into working tools, and work closely with researchers, traders, and technologists. You will also spend time observing trading activity to understand how models are applied in practice and how traders operate, so that research stays tied to live market needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate ideas in sports analytics and quantitative trading research.
- Run empirical tests on concepts using actual industry data.
- Develop code to implement models and trading strategies.
- Partner with researchers, traders, and technical teams on ongoing projects.
- Learn how trading works in practice by spending time with traders and observing model usage.
- Provide occasional support outside normal hours, including evenings or weekends, especially during model development, testing, or deployment.
Candidate Profile
Strong analytical and quantitative ability is essential, ideally backed by studies in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, or Economics. An advanced degree is helpful but not mandatory. The team is also looking for strong reasoning ability, sound problem-solving skills, and excellent communication so ideas can be understood clearly and explained effectively. Experience writing code for large-scale data processing and analysis is important, along with prior work on sports analytics or other quantitative projects. Knowledge of sports such as NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAAF, NCAAM, soccer, tennis, or golf can be an advantage, as can trading experience, though neither is required.
