Job description

Position Overview

The Quality Inspector at our Waco, TX can manufacturing plant oversees production lines to maintain high operational efficiency and ensure product quality meets company and industry standards. This role is vital for thorough, accurate, and systematic inspections of raw materials and processed goods, collaborating with multiple teams to reduce waste, prevent downtime, and uphold safety policies.

Core Duties

  • Systematically inspect products for defects, inadequate coloration, or physical damage, and document your findings while offering recommendations for process improvements.
  • Partner with production teams to resolve quality issues and maintain compliance with external and internal standards.
  • Help reduce operational downtime and minimize material waste through continuous monitoring and corrective action.
  • Relay critical information between shifts and departments regarding equipment changes, schedule updates, and any issues impacting production.
  • Diagnose and address product defects by communicating directly with line employees, and make recommendations as needed.
  • Adjust and set up machinery, ensuring every product batch meets required quality specifications.
  • Oversee and suggest modifications to production methodologies to enhance product quality within prescribed limits.
  • Complete required administrative tasks, such as production records, pallet labeling, and job logs accurately.
  • Implement statistical process control or other quality verification methods as part of ongoing monitoring.
  • Report quality concerns and opportunities to the Quality Supervisor and work with production teams to resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Follow up on action items arising from audits, inspections, or maintenance activities.
  • Participate actively in site safety programs, following all related policies and using necessary protective equipment.
  • Ensure practices meet company quality standards and all legal requirements for safe product output.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. An Associate’s degree in Industrial Maintenance, Quality Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent technical training) is preferred.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of relevant experience in industrial quality inspections and inspection processes.
  • Experience with motor controls, machinery installation, maintenance, and repair is desirable.
  • Solid grounding in quality assurance principles and methodologies.

General Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude and a background in operating/maintaining industrial equipment.
  • Experience using measuring instruments for precise quality checks.
  • History of effective problem-solving under tight deadlines and complex situations.
  • Competency operating equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and basket trucks.
  • Understanding of standard automation practices in manufacturing environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with an aptitude for keeping detailed and accurate records.
  • Capable of handling multiple simultaneous assignments within strict timeframes.
  • Track record of identifying and executing opportunities for both process and systems improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Technical & Computer Skills

  • Comfort using basic computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook), Google Workspace, and basic website interfaces.
  • Experience with SAP or other Quality Management Systems preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing plant, sometimes in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and dust.
  • Frequent interaction with potential electrical and mechanical hazards; regular outdoor work.
  • Activities include visual, auditory, and verbal communications; frequent sitting, standing, walking, occasional bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Routine use of stairs, ladders, and manual dexterity in handling tools and equipment; consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.

Schedule & Attendance

  • 12-hour rotating shifts, on a 4-days-on/4-days-off pattern, including night shifts and flexibility to meet shifting operational needs (potential for weekends, holidays, overtime).
  • Punctual and consistent attendance is essential.
