Quality Inspector - Aluminum End Plant

About the Role

Envases US Aluminum Division's Waco, TX plant specializes in producing aluminum ends and lids for beverage cans utilized in soft drinks, beers, energy drinks, teas, and other non-carbonated beverages. This facility operates a fast-paced production environment with cutting-edge end-manufacturing technology, offering stimulating opportunities in manufacturing careers.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine quality inspections across all manufacturing stages—Shell, Liner, and Conversion lines—using precise measurement instruments.
• Perform dimensional evaluations on Shell Press components, measuring parameters such as diameter, flange width, and panel depth through micrometers and calipers.
• Carry out Compound Liner assessments including wet weight, dry weight, and compound curing tests like Tanner or MEK to ensure sealing integrity.
• Apply specialized gauges such as score depth meters, tab retention testers, and buckle resistance instruments to verify critical Conversion Press specifications.
• Visually examine products for both cosmetic defects (e.g., scratches, burrs, splatter, wrinkles) and functional issues (e.g., incomplete scoring, voids).
• Promptly report any deviations or non-compliant products to Operators, Supervisors, and Quality Managers to prevent shipment errors.
• Coordinate tagging and managing quality hold materials as part of quality control protocol.
• Accurately record all test results within the electronic Quality Management System (QMS) or Statistical Process Control (SPC) software, maintaining detailed logs and retention records.
• Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in production activities related to handling and processing parameters.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on lab equipment; assist in Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) studies and support external audits by providing historical quality data.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
• Between 1 to 3 years of quality inspection experience in fast-paced manufacturing environments such as food/beverage, automotive, or medical devices.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
• Exceptional attention to detail enabling detection of microscopic defects and accuracy in data entry.
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred), Lean Six Sigma methodology, or Statistical Process Control is a plus.
• Familiarity with metal forming and high-speed press operations beneficial.
• Understanding of manufacturing process fundamentals, engineering documentation (2D drawings, P&IDs, schematics), BOMs, process design, validation, and cost control techniques.
• Ability to innovate, influence change using data-driven approaches, and manage multiple projects under tight timelines.
• Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Competence in training personnel and working independently with integrity and ownership.
• Sufficient computer skills including use of Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and rapid adaptability to new software.
• Preference given to candidates local to the area.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position primarily functions in a warehouse/manufacturing setting, occasionally exposed to weather extremes, chemical fumes, dust, and mechanical hazards. The role requires frequent use of vision, hearing, and speech, along with physical tasks like standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders and stairs, and manual dexterity for keyboard and equipment operation. Safety gear such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes are mandatory.

Hours & Conditions

The job involves working 12-hour rotating shifts with a pattern of 4 days on and 4 days off, including night shifts. Flexibility to work long hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as plant operations dictate is required. Regular attendance is critical.
