Overview
If you have a passion for food and a keen eye for details, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to product development from concept to retail shelf. The Product Development Coordinator will support one of Canada's top retailers by handling packaging and label redesign projects, overseeing product specifications, and managing regulatory, artwork, and online content reviews. You'll collaborate with external vendors and various internal teams to ensure products launch punctually while satisfying quality, regulatory, and brand requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate updates of Private Brand product specifications with vendors under the guidance of Product Development and Compliance, including formula components, label claims, nutritional analyses, technical details, and recycling compliance data.
- Maintain and accurately update the product specification database, ensuring all records are current and active.
- Support label creation by reviewing technical product specs, coordinating artwork reviews and approvals with stakeholders, and working with Regulatory Affairs to guarantee packaging conforms to food regulations and approved specifications.
- Oversee project timelines from initial confirmation to launch, ensuring milestones are achieved and managing cross-departmental and vendor cooperation.
- Identify and mitigate risks proactively, addressing pending issues to keep projects progressing smoothly.
- Manage coordination with third-party agencies for online content updates, ensuring new artwork is correctly published online.
Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related field.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in food product development, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, or food manufacturing/CPG sector is advantageous.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with a focus on project management.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to precise work.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and quick to adapt to new specification and artwork management platforms.
- Collaborative spirit, proactive mindset, and eagerness to learn.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with Canadian food regulations and labelling standards.
- Experience with product specification management software such as HIVE, TraceGains, or Genesis.
- Knowledge of Nutrition Facts Tables, ingredient declarations, allergens, and product claims.
- Exposure to private label products or consumer packaged goods.
