Role Overview
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland, earning a salary of £30,491. This position is vital in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy prison. The job mixes administrative duties with physical tasks, including security procedures like gate searches, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV. You will also be responsible for escorting vehicles around the prison campus.
Main Responsibilities
- Conducting security and search activities at the prison entrance.
- Managing and logging incoming deliveries effectively.
- Supervising visitor access and maintaining safety protocols.
- Monitoring phone communications and CCTV footage to ensure security compliance.
- Driving and escorting vehicles within the prison grounds as part of daily duties.
Candidate Profile
No formal qualifications are necessary, but candidates must possess strong communication skills and maintain composure in high-pressure situations. Good judgment, common sense, and teamwork are essential for success.
Working Patterns
The role requires flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and nights to maintain prison operations.

Essential Requirements and Conditions
