Job description
Role Overview
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) stationed at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland. This role is vital to the effective daily functioning of a busy prison, combining various responsibilities from security and monitoring to operational assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct security checks and searches at prison entry points.
- Manage and coordinate deliveries entering the prison.
- Supervise visitor access and activities within the prison.
- Oversee phone call monitoring and CCTV surveillance to ensure security compliance.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles on prison grounds.
- Drive as part of the role, requiring a valid UK driving license.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication abilities and maintain composure under pressure. You should possess good judgment, practical sense, and enjoy working collaboratively within a team. While direct prisoner contact is limited, occasional interactions may occur depending on the facility.
Working Conditions
The role requires working various shifts, frequently including weekends and nights, to help maintain constant prison operations.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary is £30,491. Benefits include:
- Starting annual leave of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after 10 years of service (prorated accordingly).
