Job description
Overview
The role of an Operational Support Grade (OSG) within His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service involves essential contributions to the smooth and secure running of prisons. Based at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland, this position carries a starting salary of £30,491.
Key Duties
OSGs undertake a wide range of activities from conducting security and search operations at prison entry points to managing the receipt and oversight of deliveries. The role also involves supervising visitor access and monitoring communications such as phone calls and CCTV footage. This position balances administrative responsibilities with physically active tasks including lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles around the prison grounds. A valid UK driving license is a prerequisite due to driving duties integral to the job.

Good judgement, common sense, and a cooperative mindset are essential. The role requires shift work covering various hours including nights and weekends.
