Overview
Join His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP The Verne and HMP Portland with a salary of £30,491. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of a busy prison environment.
Role and Responsibilities
As an OSG, you will be part of a dynamic team handling diverse duties that include performing security checks and searches at the entrance, managing incoming deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring telephone calls and CCTV footage. This role combines administrative desk work with physically active tasks such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across prison grounds. Driving is an integral aspect of this position; therefore, holding a full, valid UK Driving Licence is mandatory. The working pattern includes varied shifts, including nights and weekends.
Candidate Attributes and Experience
There are no formal qualifications required for this role. However, effective communication skills, the ability to remain composed under pressure, sound judgment, and reliability as a team player are essential. Although interactions with inmates are limited, depending on the facility, occasional contact may be necessary.
