Job description
About the role
His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service is hiring prison officers for HMP Full Sutton. This is a fast-moving public service role where you help protect the public while supporting people in custody to make positive changes in their lives.
The position is based at HMP Full Sutton in Yapham, England, United Kingdom, with a salary range of £33,746 to £38,003.
Who this role suits
This job does not follow a single background or career path. People with experience from very different areas, such as parenting, teaching, retail or the armed forces, may be well suited if they bring empathy, confidence and strong communication skills.
You will need to be able to build respectful, constructive and professional working relationships with offenders, including individuals who may be at a very difficult point in their lives.
Strong teamwork is essential in this environment. You’ll be expected to work closely with colleagues and act as one team to help keep the prison, prisoners and staff safe.
What the role involves
Every day can bring a different set of responsibilities. You may need to take on several roles within a single shift, including keeping order, offering support, and guiding or mentoring prisoners.
The work is direct and hands-on, with a clear focus on public protection and helping individuals move towards better outcomes.
Working pattern
This role requires flexibility to work a range of shifts, including weekends.
Training and progression
Full training is provided, along with opportunities to progress and develop your career. There may also be chances to specialise in different areas over time.
Benefits
The role comes with a competitive salary and a package of employee benefits, including 25 days of annual leave, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
Beyond the tangible benefits, the role offers a strong sense of purpose and the satisfaction of helping someone rebuild their life.
Application
Candidates who feel they match the qualities required are encouraged to submit an application.
