About Leyburn State School

Leyburn State School, situated on Peter Street in the Southern Downs Region, is a heritage-listed institution originally built between 1883 and the 1930s and listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992. It is also known historically as Leyburn National School.

Role Overview

As Principal, you are entrusted with realizing the department’s vision by enhancing student learning outcomes, elevating the standard of teaching and learning, and fostering positive connections among students, staff, the local community, and stakeholders. Reporting to the School Supervisor, you will:

  • Guide the school community in creating and committing to a shared educational vision prioritizing quality learning for all students.
  • Maintain the principalship as an ethical, values-driven role.
  • Integrate socially just practices into everyday school activities.
  • Set and uphold high standards for student and staff achievement.
  • Engage actively in lifelong learning and professional growth.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with parents, government agencies, community organizations, industry, and business sectors.
  • Plan strategically with a future-oriented mindset.
  • Navigate and apply relevant legislation and policies impacting education.
  • Manage school resources effectively to meet goals.
