About the Role
Join a pivotal initiative dedicated to safeguarding communities and the environment through the National Fire Ant Eradication Program. This program targets the removal of one of Australia's most damaging invasive species—the fire ant—which threatens homes, wildlife, and industries. As the Principal Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor, you will serve as a strategic partner embedded within a large-scale, geographically diverse, and operationally complex program. Your role is to provide expert advice and promote a proactive approach to health and safety by leveraging data, operational analysis, and workforce feedback to anticipate and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to designing and implementing strategic and operational HSW frameworks and initiatives.
- Offer practical, specialized advice to leadership, managers, and operational teams.
- Review and enhance HSW systems, policies, and reporting mechanisms for efficiency.
- Analyze incident data and workforce input to identify trends, emergent risks, and critical focus areas.
- Develop targeted safety initiatives, clear guidance, effective communications, and engaging safety talks.
- Support organizational transformation and ongoing program improvements aligned with departmental safety systems.
- Coach, mentor, and empower others to build confidence and expertise in health and safety practices.
- Promote collaboration, inclusivity, and solutions-oriented approaches within the workplace.
- Model exemplary behavior to foster safer and more positive working conditions.
Candidate Profile
- Diploma in Work Health and Safety and possession of a current C Class Driver Licence.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications coupled with senior experience in health, safety, and wellbeing roles.
- Proficiency in Excel, including functions like formulas, filters, and pivot tables, is highly favorable.
- Extensive generalist experience in health and safety within operational or comparably complex settings.
- Ability to integrate strategic foresight with practical, on-the-ground delivery.
- Capable of delivering credible, thoughtful, and solution-driven guidance.
- Skilled in utilizing evidence and operational insights to shape priorities and decisions.
- Adept at building strong relationships and communicating effectively across all organizational levels.
- Influences and guides organizational change, supporting others throughout transitions.
- Resourceful and comfortable managing ambiguity, competing demands, and intricate risks.
- Translates technical compliance requirements into clear, actionable guidance.
- Committed mentor and coach who enhances team HSW capabilities.
- Up-to-date with current HSW knowledge and committed to ongoing professional development.
- Passionate about improving employee wellbeing and workplace safety conditions.
- Competent in IT tools including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for creating professional reports and presentations.
