Role Overview
This role offers a significant chance to contribute to Māori health leadership within the College and across New Zealand. Collaborating closely with Māori leaders and colleagues, the Lead Fellow will influence strategic direction, foster the Māori physician workforce, and promote health equity for Māori populations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Act as a champion for Māori health priorities, embedding them into College strategy, governance, and operations.
- Provide strategic counsel to the Māori Health Committee and College leadership teams.
- Mentor and support Māori Fellows and trainees, enhancing pathways into specialist medicine.
- Build and nurture partnerships with Māori health organisations and key stakeholders in the sector.
- Lead initiatives that integrate Hauora Māori throughout the College’s education, training, and policy frameworks.
- Serve as a representative voice for Māori physicians in College forums and external platforms.
Candidate Profile and Skills
- RACP Fellowship holder with dedication to advancing Māori health outcomes.
- Deep understanding of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and Māori health principles.
- Proven strategic leadership with capability to influence complex environments.
- Exceptional relationship-building, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Sound judgement, collaborative mindset, and commitment to supporting Māori physician community.
Knowledge of te reo Māori is advantageous but not mandatory, with development opportunities provided by the College.
Position Details
- Part-time engagement, ranging from 0.2 to 0.4 full-time equivalent (FTE).
- Fixed-term appointment lasting 12 months, with possibility of extension up to 3 years.
