Job overview
This is a permanent part-time nursing position in Carcross, Yukon, arranged on a 6-weeks-on and 6-weeks-off rotation. The role includes a $7,500 signing bonus for newly hired registered nurses.
About the team
The Community Nursing Branch is dedicated to delivering high-quality primary and community health care across Yukon communities. The team works in a changing rural health environment and supports staff with structured onboarding, role-specific orientation, and continuous learning through seminars, skills training, workshops, and educational support.
Role summary
In this expanded-scope nursing role, you will help individuals and families maintain and improve their health through primary care, emergency treatment, health education, health promotion, and disease prevention. You will report to the Primary Health Care Nurse-in-Charge and provide both community health and primary health care services in a setting where physician, lab, x-ray, and pharmacy support may be limited.
The position involves collaborating closely with other registered nurses and health and social services professionals to support effective care delivery for the community.
Key duties
- Deliver primary health care and emergency treatment services.
- Support planning, development, implementation, and review of public health and education programs.
- Provide care in settings with limited access to physician and allied health services.
- Work alongside nurses and other community health professionals to meet local health needs.
- Carry out additional duties that help the unit function effectively.

Essential qualifications
- Active registration with a Canadian nursing regulatory authority.
- Recent, substantial experience as a registered nurse in an emergency department.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Training or education in an expanded nursing role will be considered an advantage.
- Experience providing community health and treatment services in an expanded role within a cross-cultural setting is an asset.
Knowledge, skills, and suitability
- Strong working knowledge of emergency treatment services.
- Understanding of community health programs.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and adaptability skills.
- Ability to lead, teach, and provide counselling.
- Sound understanding of confidentiality requirements.
Conditions of employment
- TB screening.
- Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Current Yukon RN registration in good standing.
- Current Heart & Stroke BLS, PALS, and ACLS certification.
- Approved trauma certification such as TNCC or ITLS to be completed within 6 months.
Job requirements
- Willingness to travel by air and road.
- Frequent driving within the community and on Yukon highways.
- Ability to provide care both inside and outside health centres.
- Capability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Availability for after-hours on-call work and emergency patient care.
