About the Role
This part-time position is based at HM Prison Leicester and involves working as a Probation Service Officer, managing individuals on probation both before and after sentencing. The key duties include assessing risks, implementing sentences, managing caseloads, producing reports for courts, and working with multiple agencies within the justice system. The role requires empathy, patience, and organisation, offering the chance to positively influence lives while building a rewarding professional career.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support individuals on probation throughout their sentence and post-sentence periods.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement offender management plans.
- Prepare and provide detailed reports to courts and relevant stakeholders.
- Engage with multiple justice agencies to coordinate offender rehabilitation.
- Provide practical support including advice related to housing, employment, and emotional support.
Requirements
- Right to work legally in the UK and Civil Service eligibility as per UK Immigration regulations.
- Empathy, patience, resilience, and strong organisational skills.
- Preferably experience working with individuals facing social or personal challenges.
- Proven ability to write clear, accurate reports under tight deadlines.
- Must successfully complete the Civil Service Judgement Test and interview process.
- Subject to criminal record and baseline security checks.
- Nationality eligibility includes UK nationals, Republic of Ireland nationals, Commonwealth nationals with UK work rights, EU/EEA nationals with settled or pre-settled status, and other specified categories.

- The role is part-time, with salary starting at £28,064 pro-rata.
- Annual pay progression possible through a Competency Based Framework, subject to performance.
