Job description
Position Overview
This role is located within Approved Premises across West Yorkshire, including sites in Wakefield, Dewsbury, and Cleckheaton. Residential Workers provide essential 24/7 cover and support for offenders transitioning from prison to the community, ensuring public safety and supporting rehabilitation efforts.
Job Function
Working on a shift rota that covers all days, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays, Residential Workers maintain security, monitor residents, and assist with enforcement procedures. The role requires being physically onsite at Approved Premises and may include coverage across multiple locations as per operational needs.
Work Schedule and Conditions
- Annualised hours allow some flexibility in shift choices, but availability must be submitted 3 months in advance with a blend of night, weekend, and weekday shifts.
- No option for hybrid or remote work; presence onsite is compulsory.
- Premium pay applies for unsocial hours: 30% extra for night shifts (7pm-8am weekdays), 50% for weekends and public holidays, plus time off in lieu for bank holiday hours.
Responsibilities
- Provide continuous security and monitor behaviour within the premises.
- Support offenders with risk management and sentence plan adherence.
- Report significant changes in risk or non-compliance according to enforcement guidelines.
- Work collaboratively within a team to ensure the safety of residents, premises, and the community.
Candidate Profile
The role does not require a university degree but values personal attributes including empathy, patience, and resilience. Experience working with individuals facing social or personal challenges is preferred. Basic literacy and numeracy are needed to complete required documentation and reports.
Employment Terms and Visa Eligibility
- This is a public service position which is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa under current immigration regulations.
- Candidates must hold the legal right to work and live in the UK.
- Applicants who successfully pass assessments but cannot be placed immediately will remain on a merit list for 12 months for future openings.
Selection Process
Applicants are required to complete an application form responding to behavior and experience-based questions reflecting Civil Service success profiles. A face-to-face interview will introduce candidates to the environment of Approved Premises. Security clearance, including criminal record and personnel checks, will be required prior to appointment.
