Job description
Role Overview
This operational position is based at CTS Usk House Newport FLR 2nd NP20 2GD, NPS Centenary House Caerphilly CF83 3HU, and NPS Torfaen House Pontypool NP4 5ES. As a Community Payback Supervisor, you will lead and oversee individuals serving community sentences through unpaid work that benefits local communities, focusing on rehabilitation and public improvement.
Key Duties
- Directly supervise and motivate people on probation performing diverse community projects such as landscaping, sports pitch upkeep, cooking, woodland care, park and coastal pathway maintenance, church and sports club renovations, painting, flood prevention, minor construction, beach surveys, healthcare facility support, crafting garden furniture, and allotment cultivation.
- Collaborate with local and national charities to support community initiatives.
- Ensure safety and effective communication through basic IT skills to share accurate information among internal departments, partners, and beneficiaries.
- Possibly drive service vehicles for transporting personnel or materials.
- Work frequently on weekends or evenings as projects operate seven days a week, receiving additional pay for weekend work.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold a full UK manual driving license; automatic license holders are ineligible.
- Right to work in the UK is mandatory, with certain restrictions regarding sponsorship for Skilled Worker visas post 22 July 2025.
- Good communication and leadership skills with empathy to work with diverse individuals.
- Basic computer skills to maintain clear and timely communication.
Working Conditions & Schedule
- Part-time, on-site role requiring up to 7 hours daily supervising community payback participants.
- Shift patterns include weekend and occasional evening work with 50% higher compensation for weekends.
- Dynamic and active role with varied daily tasks both indoors and outdoors.
- Breaks may be irregular due to the nature of work; wellbeing is prioritized by the employer.
Compensation & Career Progression
- Starting pay for new recruits is £28,064 per annum (pro-rated for part-time).
- Salaries adhere to advertised scales without negotiation but enable progression based on competency frameworks and annual Civil Service pay guidance.

Recruitment Process
- Applicants must attend a mandatory full-day assessment on 8th September at The Lewis Street Office, Cardiff, including a live project site visit and afternoon interview.
