Job description

Job Overview

This role is based at multiple locations including NMS Martin Evans House, NPS Former Post Office Pontypridd, and NPS Tremains Business Park Bridgend. It involves supervising individuals serving unpaid work orders and leading teams in various community projects that improve public spaces and services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee groups of offenders in community payback projects such as landscaping, sports pitch maintenance, food preparation, woodland conservation, and public park upkeep.
  • Manage tasks including building renovations, painting, flood prevention, small-scale construction, beach surveys, supporting hospitals and residential homes, manufacturing garden furniture, and cultivating allotments.
  • Collaborate with local and national charities to maximize community benefit.
  • Ensure clear and timely communication between internal teams, partner organizations, and service users using basic IT tools.
  • Drive service vehicles as required to transport people and equipment.
  • Foster a safe, productive environment encouraging skill development and rehabilitation for people on probation.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must hold a full UK manual driving licence; automatic licence holders are not eligible.
  • Right to work legally in the UK and comply with Civil Service nationality rules; Skilled Worker visas are generally not sponsored for this role except under specific transitional provisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including empathy and communication to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Basic IT proficiency for communication and record-keeping.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including frequent weekends and occasional evenings, with additional pay for weekend work.

Working Conditions and Benefits

  • Part-time position with a salary starting at £28,064 pro-rata, non-negotiable and based on pay scale minimum for new recruits.
  • Work typically includes up to seven hours of direct supervision daily at community sites.
  • Work may involve outdoor physical activity and varied environments.
  • Annual pay progression possible through performance-based competency framework (CBF).
  • Comprehensive wellbeing support provided recognizing the active and changing nature of the work.
  • Interview process involves a full-day assessment at the Lewis Street Office, Cardiff, including a live project visit and afternoon interview on a single specified date.
