This role is based at HM Prison Foston Hall, Derby, DE65 5DN.
Role Summary
Join the Probation Service where you will contribute to public safety by supporting individuals to rehabilitate and positively transform their lives. This role offers diverse experiences, skill development, and the opportunity to build a meaningful career within probation.
Key Responsibilities
As a Probation Service Officer (PSO), you will manage a caseload of medium and low-risk offenders both before and after sentencing. Your duties will include conducting assessments, sentence implementation, offender management, and preparing reports. You will provide case management support following established procedures and professional guidelines.

We seek empathetic, patient, resilient, and organised individuals ideally with experience working with people facing social or personal difficulties. Strong written communication skills are essential, with the ability to produce clear and accurate documentation under deadlines. No academic degree is required; personal qualities and relevant experience are prioritized.
Compensation and Career Progression
The starting salary for successful applicants is £28,064 per annum pro-rated for part-time work. The service provides annual pay progression linked to a Competency Based Framework that allows salary growth as competencies improve. Pay bands are adjusted yearly in line with Civil Service guidelines.
