Part-Time Occupational Health Nurse (Food Manufacturing, Site)

Role summary

O'Brien Fine Foods is seeking a part-time Occupational Health Nurse to support statutory and preventative occupational health services at a food manufacturing site. The role is focused on maintaining compliance with Irish health and safety law while helping strengthen employee wellbeing and resilience.

The position is based at the manufacturing facility in Timahoe, County Kildare, with Rathowen, County Westmeath also referenced as a site location. The working pattern is part-time, typically three days per week or a set number of hours.

Clinical and occupational health duties

• Carry out pre-employment health checks and medical screening.
• Complete assessments for fitness to work and return-to-work cases.
• Undertake periodic health surveillance where workplace exposure or role requirements call for it.
• Deliver first aid support and assist the onsite first aid team when needed.
• Keep health records accurate, secure, and confidential in line with GDPR and HSA expectations.

Compliance and workplace safety

• Support the organisation in meeting its obligations under Irish health and safety legislation.
• Help identify occupational health hazards and contribute to risk assessments.
• Provide medical input during occupational health investigations.

Wellbeing and advisory support

• Champion wellbeing initiatives across the workplace.
• Offer practical health education and ergonomic guidance.
• Advise on the needs of vulnerable or sensitive risk groups.
• Prepare a quarterly newsletter focused on mental health.

Culture and collaboration

• Take part in quarterly Occupational Health Nurse meetups and peer-learning activities.
• Encourage awareness of and access to external support services.
• Work closely with the EHS team, Safety Committee, and Safety Representatives to build a joined-up safety culture.

Administration and reporting

• Prepare occupational health reports when required.
• Organise and manage work within the available part-time hours.

Qualifications and experience

• A current Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification is required.
• An occupational health qualification is an advantage.
• Previous industrial experience is preferred.

Skills and competencies

The ideal candidate should bring sound clinical judgement, strong communication skills, the ability to prioritise work efficiently, and a high standard of confidentiality.

Additional information

This role is part-time, with either three working days per week or another agreed set of hours. It reports to the People & Culture Department.
