Role Overview
We are seeking a dependable Overnight Security Guard & Night Porter to provide a secure and welcoming presence at a retirement village in Wānaka throughout the night. This full-time position involves conducting patrols, managing access control, responding to incidents, and liaising with tenants, visitors, and emergency services to maintain a calm, safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of site buildings, grounds, and carparks to prevent unauthorized activities and identify potential hazards.
- Perform night porter duties such as managing access control, reception for late arrivals, key management, and assisting residents or guests as needed.
- Respond swiftly and professionally to alarms, incidents, and welfare checks, escalating matters to emergency services or management when required.
- Monitor CCTV and alarms according to instructions and ensure all incidents are properly recorded and reported.
- Prepare thorough incident reports, nightly shift handovers, and operational logs to maintain seamless communication between shifts.
- Ensure site safety by recognizing and reporting hazards, supporting fire and evacuation procedures, and securing all doors and access points.
- Offer courteous, customer-oriented assistance to residents, guests, contractors, and night staff while upholding professional security standards.
- Carry out general site duties such as de-icing roads for the safety of residents.
- Adhere strictly to company policies, privacy requirements, and occupational health and safety regulations at all times.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid New Zealand Certificate of Approval (COA) security licence.
- Clear criminal record and ability to pass all pre-employment screening procedures.
- Previous experience in night security, portering, concierge, or similar client-facing security roles is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong observational abilities, effective communication, and clear incident reporting skills with composure under pressure.
- Ability to work independently throughout overnight shifts, demonstrating sound time management and self-motivation.
- Professional demeanor with high integrity and respect for confidentiality, especially when handling sensitive data and CCTV footage.
- Basic proficiency with IT, including using reporting systems and radios confidently.
- Reliability, punctuality, commitment to safety, and a customer-focused attitude.
- Eligible to work in New Zealand and aged 18 years or older.
