Position Overview
The Optometric Scribe supports physicians during patient examinations by documenting relevant information in the electronic health records (EHR) systems, thus maximizing the doctor’s patient interaction time. Additional responsibilities include aiding technicians with administrative and clinical tasks such as gathering patient histories, conducting preliminary and diagnostic tests, managing appointment scheduling, and ensuring exam rooms are ready.

Key Responsibilities
- Accurately enter patient information into EHR as dictated by the physician during exams
- Provide assistance during patient procedures alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists
- Escort patients to Optical department and communicate physician recommendations to Opticians
- Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor office patient flow, communicating any delays effectively
- Maintain exam rooms by cleaning instruments and managing medication and supply inventories
- Ensure a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment for patients and staff
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
Additional Duties
- Prepare patients for eye exams and vision therapy, including confidential instruction about medications and procedures
- Administer various vision and diagnostic tests
- Collect and enter patient medical histories into EHR
- Assist with telephone reception, appointment scheduling, and recall management
- Availability for occasional travel to support other office locations
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in the optometry field is preferred but not mandatory

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to stand for long durations and perform physical activities such as stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, and hearing
- Light physical work involving lifting up to 15 pounds from floor to waist, 5 pounds from waist to shoulder, and 5 pounds overhead
- Visual acuity necessary to assess precision and thoroughness of tasks
