Role Overview

The Nurse Support Worker will be an integral part of Ward 2C within the Women and Children's Directorate at The Royal Hospital for Children located in Glasgow. Work Schedule and Location

• Position available on a permanent basis with flexible full-time or part-time options
• Based at The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow
• Rotational shifts including days, nights, and weekends

Key Responsibilities

• Assist registered nurses in delivering comprehensive care to young patients with acute medical needs
• Accurately monitor and document patient observations and care activities
• Offer individual support to vulnerable patients, addressing both physical and emotional needs
• Support patients through admission, transfer, and diagnostic processes, including those requiring oxygen therapy
• Help administer feeding protocols, such as nasogastric and gastrostomy feeds, after proper training
• Maintain ward safety and cleanliness by managing stock, supporting infection control, and assisting with mealtimes
• Promptly observe and report any changes in patient conditions to ensure timely intervention

Required Qualifications and Skills

• A caring and empathetic disposition focused on assisting children, young people, and their families
• Commitment to completing the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 in Healthcare Support or an equivalent credential
• Proven ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team, especially under pressure in an acute care setting
• Strong interpersonal skills capable of fostering positive relationships with patients and families
• Competence in maintaining accurate medical records and utilizing electronic patient information systems
• Understanding of patient confidentiality, dignity, and person-centred care principles
