This full-time position (36 hours per week) as a Band 6 Rotational Clinical Pharmacist is based at a hospital in County Limerick, Ireland, within the supportive and collaborative pharmacy team.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The role entails working across core areas including medicine, surgery, and dispensary — the latter supported by a technician-led, robotics-assisted system. Emphasis will be placed on the pharmacist's professional and clinical duties, including leadership and management responsibilities. Opportunities exist to enhance expertise through specialized rotations in aseptic techniques, medicines information, and clinical specialties such as critical care, cardiology, renal, oncology/hematology, elderly care, and pediatrics.

Participation in the NES post-registration foundation program will be supported, enabling you to develop the essential competencies of a contemporary pharmacist, including independent prescribing capabilities.

The pharmacy team provides high-quality educational support, with guidance from an experienced educational supervisor and a dedicated Education & Training pharmacist connected to the Highlands and Islands pharmacy education and research group. Training is regularly updated to maintain excellence. Local and national peer support is available, and after accreditation, career advancement opportunities abound. Continued professional development will be encouraged, including progression on the RPS advanced framework and postgraduate training relevant to your evolving role.

The post is located at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, a vibrant and fast-growing city recognized for its high living standards and excellent transportation links, including frequent flights to major hubs like London and Amsterdam. The city offers a diverse array of amenities, cultural events, historical sites, sports, scenic outdoor activities, and a balanced small-hospital atmosphere serving roughly 320,000 people over a region equivalent in size to Belgium.

Additional Professional Details

As part of meeting patient care needs, participation in on-call, public holiday, and weekend rotas is required, with full training and induction prior to joining these schedules. Communication among staff is facilitated via an active and supportive WhatsApp group.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should hold a Masters Degree in Pharmacy and can be either trainee or registered pharmacists from any sector. Pharmacists from community or primary care environments seeking to transition into hospital practice will receive full support.
