Opportunity Overview
If you enjoy working around pools, fitness environments, and engaging with the public, Auckland Council invites you to join their Network Support Team. This versatile role involves moving between leisure centres to support lifeguarding, customer service, recreational programming, and fitness facility operations. The position offers a dynamic schedule across various locations, providing diversity and community impact.
Key Duties
- Provide vigilant lifeguard supervision to maintain safe pool environments.
- Offer warm customer support including membership handling and visitor assistance.
- Assist gym operations and ensure cleanliness and efficient facility functionality.
- Support recreational activities by preparing equipment and helping deliver engaging programmes for all age groups.
Training and Qualifications
Auckland Council will fully cover and provide paid lifeguard training and certification (Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate). Candidates must pass a swim assessment including a 200m swim under 6 minutes, 50m breaststroke, 25m sidestroke, a duck dive with retrieval from a 5m depth, and a 5-minute tread water test. If not holding a current PLPC or first aid certificate, attendance at mandatory training from 6 to 17 July at West Wave is required.
Working Hours and Locations
Several permanent part-time opportunities are available, offering 16 to 24 hours weekly on a rotating fortnightly roster between 5am and 10pm at sites such as West Wave and North Shore centres (e.g., Birkenhead, Albany). Availability to work at least one weekend day and daytime flexibility is essential.
