Job description

Role Overview

Join the vibrant Birkenhead Library team in an influential role as Senior Librarian Children and Youth, located within the Kaipātiki Local Board area. This permanent, full-time position requires 38 hours weekly, including one weekend day, and offers a chance to significantly impact literacy and community engagement for children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain strong connections with children, youth, their families, schools, pre-schools, and community stakeholders.
  • Design, plan, and lead dynamic, contextually relevant programmes and events catering to tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Provide robust leadership onsite, exhibiting the ability to lead, delegate, and support team members within the library and across the local board.
  • Act as an advocate for literacy by delivering expert readers advisory services to children, youth, and their caregivers.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for fostering literacy, learning, and inclusivity.
  • Comfort and skill in effectively interacting with children, young people, and their families.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Proven capacity for resilience and leadership, complemented by a collaborative and growth-oriented mindset.

While LIANZA professional registration is valued, it is not mandatory as Auckland Council provides support to achieve this credential.
