Job description
Role Overview
The Bioeconomy Science Institute (BSI) is seeking a strategic and commercially savvy National Property Services Manager to oversee the national property portfolio. This critical leadership role will define the strategy, governance, and optimization of land and property assets that support world-class scientific research across New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and stewardship of one of New Zealand's most diverse science property portfolios.
- Develop and execute national property strategies, including asset planning, leasing, acquisitions, and disposals.
- Influence major investment and property decisions to enable cutting-edge research initiatives.
- Manage governance, continuous improvement, and compliance related to property and fleet services.
- Lead and mentor the National Fleet Manager and Lease & Property Advisor, fostering collaboration and high performance.
- Collaborate with Regional Site Operations Managers to harmonize national consistency with regional operational needs.
About the Bioeconomy Science Institute
Formed on 1 July 2025 by the merger of AgResearch, Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research, Plant & Food Research, and Scion, BSI represents over 2200 professionals dedicated to advancing New Zealand's bioeconomy. Our work accelerates innovation in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, aquaculture, biotechnology, manufacturing, and focuses on protecting ecosystems against biosecurity threats and climate risks.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-site property portfolios and leading teams.
- Expertise in developing and implementing property and asset management strategies.
- Competence in overseeing leasing, acquisitions, disposals, and property optimization.
- Track record of providing strategic property advice, governance, and leading projects including business cases and budgets.
- Ability to drive team collaboration, foster continuous improvement, and lead through change.
- Knowledge of relevant property legislation and health and safety compliance.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in property, facilities management, real estate, business, or equivalent experience.
