About the Position
The Field Enforcement Bureau, a regulatory and law enforcement division within the Comptroller of Maryland, is seeking a License Specialist to join the Licensing & Registration Unit based in Annapolis, Maryland. This role involves handling licensing tasks such as processing applications for motor fuel seller’s licenses, motor carriers’ permits under the International Fuel Tax Agreement, and slot machine licenses for authorized fraternal organizations. The Bureau also manages several licenses issued by the Clerk of the Courts, including Traders and Restaurant licenses, alongside overseeing the distribution of cigarette tax stamps to authorized wholesalers. The License Specialist will engage daily with the public, businesses, and government agencies, providing vital support to multiple units within the Comptroller’s Office including Central Registration, Taxpayer Services, and Compliance. Exceptional customer service and teamwork skills are essential, and there is potential for a hybrid work arrangement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Process and manage applications for various license types issued by the Comptroller and related authorities.
- Distribute cigarette tax stamps to authorized wholesalers efficiently and accurately.
- Provide support and collaborate with other units such as Central Registration, Taxpayer Services, and Compliance within the Comptroller’s Office.
- Maintain regular communication with the business community, public, and other governmental agencies to ensure compliance and efficient service delivery.
- Deliver high-quality customer service and contribute positively within a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution.
- At least two years of experience in customer service, telecommunications, fiscal clerical tasks, or related clerical work.
- Additional education at an accredited college or university can be substituted for experience at a rate of 30 credit hours per year.
- Military service as a non-commissioned officer in accounting, budgeting, or financial clerical roles may be substituted year-for-year for experience requirements.
- Foreign educational credentials must be verified for U.S. equivalency by an approved evaluation service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage high volumes of work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Additional customer service experience.
- Familiarity with motor fuel laws and regulations.
Selection Process and Additional Details
