About the Role
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) in Maryland invites qualified individuals to join a prominent department with nearly 12,000 employees, focused on enhancing public safety and innovative restorative justice initiatives. This position is located in Carroll County at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in Sykesville, MD.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver legislative mandated training to Administrative Charging Committee members, Police Trial Board Civilian members, Administrative Law Judges, and Law Enforcement Command personnel.
- Coordinate classes and training sessions, assisting other units in the presentation of program materials.
- Support field training and train-the-trainer programs within units.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and value of training courses prior to their delivery.
- Design and implement assigned programmatic projects related to training.
- Conduct continual research to update training curricula, including lesson plans and presentation materials.
- Organize and coordinate training locations within assigned regions.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Experience: Five years in law enforcement, with at least two years as a Police Trainer or Instructor focusing on the creation and delivery of training.
Substitutions: Up to four years of additional relevant professional experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the educational requirement.
Selective Qualification: Must possess a valid MPCTC Academic Instructor Certification or be able to obtain it within six months of hiring.
Preferred Qualifications: Availability for in-person training sessions throughout Maryland continually.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must have proficient spoken and written English capabilities and communicate respectfully with diverse groups, including individuals with different cultural and interpersonal backgrounds in various community or confinement contexts. Fluency in additional languages such as Spanish, Mandarin, or Korean is advantageous.
Selection and Examination Process
Applicants must thoroughly document qualifications within the deadline. Applications will be assessed based on education, training, and experience. Successful candidates will be ranked and placed on an employment list valid for at least one year.
