Junior or Senior Clinical Fellow, Children and Young People’s Emergency Department

Role overview

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a driven doctor to join its Children and Young People’s Emergency Department team for a 12-month maternity cover post. Based in a busy emergency setting, this position offers an excellent chance to build experience in paediatric emergency medicine before moving on to a national training pathway or a local CESR route.

Appointment level will depend on prior experience. You may be placed in a Junior Fellow post, which aligns with CT1, CT2 or CT3 level, or on an ST4+ equivalent rota. Applicants who already hold full MRCEM or MRCPCH at the point of application may also be considered for the Senior Fellow role.

About the team and setting

You will be part of a supportive, forward-looking department that is focused on strong patient outcomes and continuous professional development. The team works under consultant-led clinical direction, with CYPED consultants present in the department around the clock. Each fellow is also assigned both an educational supervisor and a clinical supervisor.

The Trust is one of the largest NHS employers in the country, with around 20,000 colleagues and services across multiple sites in Nottingham and the wider East Midlands. It provides specialist care, teaching, and research activity across a broad range of services, including the Nottingham Children’s Hospital and the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre.

What the role involves

Working in CYPED means handling a varied and fast-moving workload, including front-line coordination, maintaining the four-hour target, and continuously adjusting priorities as patient needs change.
