Role overview
A prominent event-driven hedge fund is hiring a Junior Investment Analyst to join its investment team in London. This position provides exposure to a mix of event-driven and fundamental strategies, including merger arbitrage, equity long/short, and credit. The analyst will work alongside senior investors and contribute to idea sourcing, research, financial analysis, and ongoing portfolio oversight across global markets.
The firm manages about $1.5 billion in assets and continues to expand internationally. It is known for an entrepreneurial culture where analysts can build wide-ranging investing expertise, take on meaningful responsibility early, and develop strong long-term earning potential.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out in-depth research on companies, industries, and transaction-specific situations within event-driven and special situations investing.
- Support investment activity across merger arbitrage, equity long/short, and credit strategies.
- Construct and update detailed financial models to evaluate opportunities and understand risk versus return.
- Track portfolio holdings, corporate actions, earnings announcements, M&A activity, and broader market changes.
- Assess merger deals, regulatory updates, and event-driven catalysts that may affect investments.
- Draft investment memoranda, research notes, and presentation materials for senior investment staff.
- Assist with portfolio building, risk checks, and performance attribution analysis.
- Take part in investment discussions and help generate new ideas across the platform.
- Collaborate closely with senior team members on existing positions as well as new opportunities.
Candidate profile
- Two to three years of experience in a leading investment banking M&A or comparable advisory team, or one to two years in a relevant buy-side investing role.
- Preference for applicants with broad exposure to corporate analysis and equity research.
- Clear interest in public markets, event-driven investing, and special situations.
- Strong capability in financial modelling, valuation, and analytical problem-solving.
- Solid understanding of M&A transactions and core corporate finance principles.
- Strong academic background with a consistent track record of high performance.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Intellectual curiosity, sound commercial judgement, and motivation to grow as a fundamental investor.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, performance-driven investment setting.
Opportunity
This role offers the chance to join an established investing platform with a strong record in event-driven strategies and a growing international footprint. You will gain direct access to senior decision-makers, broader strategy coverage, meaningful responsibility from the outset, and attractive long-term compensation linked to both personal and firm results.
