Role overview
A prominent event-driven hedge fund is looking for a Junior Investment Analyst to support its investment team in London. The position provides exposure to a mix of event-driven and fundamental strategies, including merger arbitrage, equity long/short, and credit. Working alongside senior investors, the analyst will contribute to idea creation, research, financial analysis, and portfolio oversight across global markets.
The firm manages about $1.5 billion in assets and is expanding internationally. It offers an entrepreneurial setting where analysts can build wide-ranging investing skills and benefit from strong long-term career and earnings prospects.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out detailed research on companies, industries, and transactions related to event-driven and special situations ideas.
- Support the investment teams working across merger arbitrage, equity long/short, and credit.
- Develop and update financial models to evaluate opportunities and understand risk-return profiles.
- Track portfolio holdings, corporate actions, earnings announcements, M&A activity, and broader market changes.
- Review merger deals, regulatory updates, and event-driven catalysts that may affect investments.
- Draft investment memos, research notes, and presentations for senior investment staff.
- Help with portfolio construction, risk tracking, and performance attribution analysis.
- Take part in investment debates and contribute ideas across the platform.
- Work closely with senior colleagues on both current positions and potential new opportunities.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of experience in a top-tier investment banking M&A or similar advisory role, or 1–2 years in relevant buy-side investing.
- Preference for candidates with experience in corporate analysis and equity research.
- Clear interest in public markets, event-driven investing, and special situations.
- Strong capabilities in financial modelling, valuation, and analytical work.
- Solid grasp of M&A transactions and core corporate finance concepts.
- Strong academic background with a history of high achievement.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Commercial judgement, intellectual curiosity, and motivation to grow as a fundamental investor.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-moving, results-driven investment environment.
Opportunity
This role offers the chance to join an established investment platform with a strong record in event-driven investing and a growing global footprint. The analyst will work directly with senior decision-makers, gain broad strategy exposure, take on meaningful responsibility from the outset, and have the potential for attractive long-term compensation tied to both personal and firm performance.
