Job description

Role overview

A growing organization is looking to add a Junior Accountant / Bookkeeper to its finance function in Toronto, Ontario. The position follows a hybrid setup, with remote work and one on-site day per week. This is a practical, hands-on accounting opportunity within a lean team that supports ongoing business expansion.

The business is scaling and expects to add more hires in the months ahead, making this a strong fit for someone who wants broader exposure, real ownership, and room to develop internally. The role will work closely with finance leadership and contribute to accurate reporting, day-to-day bookkeeping, and core accounting operations.

This opportunity suits someone with bookkeeping or junior-to-intermediate accounting experience, as well as candidates actively working toward CPA designation who want to deepen their experience in a growing environment.

Key duties

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Keep the general ledger accurate through reconciliations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Assist with external audit requests and provide supporting documentation.
  • Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and other transactional accounting tasks.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Contribute to improving accounting workflows and internal controls.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting work when required.
  • Work alongside finance leadership on reporting priorities and deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for varied accounting tasks in a small, collaborative team.
  • Help with additional finance and accounting projects as the company continues to expand.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least 3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience in an industry setting.
  • Practical experience preparing monthly financial statements and reporting packages.
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks is mandatory.
  • Experience with full-cycle bookkeeping, reconciliations, and month-end activities.
  • Exposure to audit support or audit coordination is an advantage.
  • CPA designation is not mandatory; applicants currently pursuing CPA are encouraged.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Comfort working independently within a small, lean team.
  • Willingness to take ownership and support different areas of the business.
  • Spanish language ability is a plus.
