About the Role
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Officer to join the Western Plains Correctional Centre team. This full-time position operates within a maximum-security facility housing up to 1248 individuals, aiming to provide rehabilitation through a multidisciplinary and holistic approach that supports reintegration into the community.
The Industry Officer will oversee multiple operational areas including Food Service, Laundry, Grounds and Environmental Services, Metalwork, Painting, Warehouse, Canteen, and Snap Frozen Production. The primary focus is to deliver training and employment opportunities to inmates while achieving commercial production goals and service requirements efficiently and securely.
Responsibilities
- Manage operational objectives for prison industries, ensuring targets for commercial production and customer satisfaction are met alongside inventory and financial oversight.
- Maintain safety and security of prisoners, staff, and visitors by enforcing occupational health and safety protocols, conducting surveillance, and ensuring compliance with security procedures.
- Implement performance management and contribute to ongoing professional development, emphasizing quality assurance and continuous improvements in industry operations.
- Support offender case management practices and participate in initiatives integrating training with industry operations, including membership in working groups and reporting to leadership.
- Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to drive quality management and continuous improvement processes, resolving local operational challenges.
Requirements
- Practical experience in areas such as Cooking/Catering, Horticulture, Laundry, Metalwork, Powder Coating, and Food Production is beneficial.
- Relevant trade qualifications or equivalent experience related to industry training within correctional settings are advantageous.
- Completion of Corrections Victoria pre-service training is required or willingness to undertake it.
- Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are desirable but not mandatory.

Additional Information
The salary for this position ranges from $83,288 to $95,778 per annum plus superannuation under the COG Grade 2b classification.
