Role Overview

As a Healthcare Assistant within our Staffordshire and Stoke community team, you will deliver compassionate and tailored end-of-life care to patients in their homes. Working under a multidisciplinary team, your role will involve assisting with personal care, skin integrity, nutrition, hydration, mobility, rest, and maintaining a safe environment. You will monitor patient conditions, manage symptoms within care plans, and promptly escalate concerns to healthcare professionals, while providing sensitive communication to patients and their families to uphold dignity and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

• Support personalised care plans through assistance with personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, hydration, skin care, and rest.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable care environment for patients.
• Observe and report changes in patients’ conditions and symptoms, escalating concerns to registered clinicians promptly.
• Provide respectful and sensitive communication to patients and their loved ones, preserving dignity and choice.
• Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary support network.

Candidate Requirements

• Recent experience delivering care in a health or social care setting with dignity and compassion.
• Understanding of person-centred care, ideally including palliative or end-of-life care.
• Effective, sensitive communication abilities with awareness of when to escalate clinical issues.
• Resilience, flexibility, and a caring approach, with independent working skills within a team.
• Basic proficiency with IT including email, online learning, mobile devices, and care record systems.
• Desirable: NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
• Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle insured for business use, and willingness to travel up to 25 miles around Staffordshire and Stoke during unsocial hours.

Working Conditions and Salary

• Permanent contract with multiple openings.
• Night shifts from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, seven days a week including Bank Holidays.
• Hourly pay at £12.92 (Marie Curie Pay Scale Band 2 aligned with AFC), with enhanced rates for nights, weekends, and public holidays—up to 41% uplift.
