Job description
About Moniepoint Group
Moniepoint is a leading African financial ecosystem offering comprehensive payment, banking, credit, and business management solutions. In 2023, the company managed transactions totaling $182 billion, making it Nigeria’s largest merchant acquirer.
Role Objective
This senior role is responsible for creating, owning, and maintaining the Group's FP&A framework, methodologies, and reporting standards. The aim is to provide the leadership team with a unified and dependable financial performance overview across all subsidiaries including Moniepoint Nigeria, Kenya, MonieWorld, and Moniepoint Technologies.
This role focuses on framework design and consolidation rather than daily operating finance activities at subsidiary levels. While some subsidiaries have their own FP&A teams handling local budgeting and forecasting, this position sets the standards those teams follow and consolidates their outputs. Where FP&A resources are lacking, this role takes direct responsibility, ensuring one coherent Group-wide system without duplications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the Group’s FP&A framework encompassing forecasting systems, budgeting procedures, and reporting standards applicable to all entities, including those with independent FP&A teams.
- Aggregate forecasts from business units and subsidiaries into a consolidated Group Profit & Loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow report with currency toggling and intercompany eliminations.
- Manage the annual Group budgeting cycle including templates, schedules, challenge sessions, and Board approvals, while enabling local finance teams to lead their budget preparations.
- Generate consolidated long-term forecasts (2026-28 and beyond) that reconcile monthly with actual financial results and provide clear explanations for variances.
- Collaborate closely with the Group Financial Controller to ensure monthly reconciliation between actuals, forecasts, and consolidation, aligning closing timelines with reporting requirements.
- Oversee the monthly and quarterly Group-wide reporting process, including the production of consolidated management accounts, Board presentations, and investor-grade reports.
- Design and enforce consistent Group-wide KPIs and unit economics frameworks applicable across all entities and finance teams.
- Engage with CFOs and finance leaders of business units as the standards authority and consolidator, allowing local teams to handle operational finance tasks.
- Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analysis for major strategic decisions such as market launches, capital raises, expansion, and licensing.
- Define and uphold FP&A modeling best practices including structure, formatting, sign-off procedures, and version control across all entities.
- Supervise and develop Group FP&A Analysts responsible for subsidiaries and centralized shared services lacking dedicated FP&A personnel.
Candidate Profile
- 8 to 10+ years’ experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or investment banking, particularly with expertise in constructing forecasting frameworks from scratch.
- Demonstrated skill in consolidating multi-entity and multi-currency forecasts and management accounts.
- Background in banking, financial technology, or other regulated high-growth industries.
- Advanced financial modeling proficiency, including complex multi-entity multi-currency Excel models; professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, CFA or equivalent preferred.
- Proven ability to lead as a senior finance professional working remotely across diverse time zones and geographic regions.
Desired Additional Qualifications
- Experience within high-growth African or emerging market fintech or banking sectors.
- Familiarity with Board-level and investor reporting at a Group scale.
- Knowledge of financial planning and consolidation software tools such as NetSuite, Aleph, Pigment, or similar platforms beyond Excel.
- Track record of establishing FP&A functions or frameworks during organizational scale-up, including coordinating Group-level versus local team responsibilities.
Personal Attributes
- Strong systems thinker who builds robust frameworks designed for long-term use rather than temporary fixes.
- Comfortable managing and clearly communicating complex multi-entity, multi-currency financial views to executive leadership and Board members.
- Focuses on enabling local finance teams through standards and frameworks instead of doing their work for them.
- Insists on accuracy and reconciliation in financial data before approval.
- Effective leadership skills in managing small analyst teams to deliver consistent, high-quality outputs aligned with Group standards.
- Excellent written communication skills characterized by clarity, structure, and precision.
- Highly organized and proactive in managing a Group-wide process remotely without direct physical oversight.
Performance Goals
- Monthly Group forecasts are accurately reconciled against actuals with variance explanations within acceptable thresholds.
- All management, Board, and investor reporting is delivered punctually and to high standards without last-minute changes.
- The Group budget process runs strictly to a specified calendar with full business unit approvals and no significant off-cycle modifications.
- Business unit finance teams utilize the Group's FP&A model and standards as their primary framework rather than separate systems.
- The CFO and Group CEO rely on FP&A outputs as the definitive source for strategic and operational decision-making.
Hiring Process
- Initial screening call with recruitment team.
- Interview with the Hiring Manager.
- Panel interview involving existing Finance Leaders.
- Behavioral and technical interview with an Executive team member.
