Position Overview
Become a vital leader at Charleville School of Distance Education, guiding curriculum delivery and enhancing teaching practices across Queensland. As Head of Department (Curriculum), you will oversee the entire school’s curriculum implementation from Prep to Year 10, enhance teacher skills, and promote evidence-based instructional methods.

Charleville School of Distance Education serves home-based learners throughout rural and remote areas of Queensland and beyond, providing quality education through online materials, telephone and video lessons, emails, and postal deliveries. It nurtures a connected community despite geographic separation, living by the motto "Divided by Distance, United by Voice." Termly Field Events enable face-to-face interaction among students and staff.
Role Details
This leadership role offers a platform to drive school-wide improvement, focusing on implementing the Australian Curriculum Version 9, promoting explicit reading strategies, and embedding evidence-based teaching. Current initiatives prioritize vocabulary instruction across subjects and enhancing student engagement within online learning environments. Working within a culture valuing collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation, you will lead meaningful improvements in teacher expertise and student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visionary leadership by crafting and executing a collaborative curriculum or school-wide program strategy to inspire excellence, innovation, and superior learning results for all students.
- Cultivate high expectations and ongoing enhancement by integrating inclusive, socially just educational approaches, setting elevated benchmarks for both student and staff achievement, and encouraging professional growth.
- Develop strong partnerships by engaging effectively with students, parents, staff, governmental bodies, and community groups to expand educational possibilities and foster student success.
- Ensure sound governance and strategic foresight utilizing relevant legislation, policies, and strategic planning for sustainable school advancement.
- Manage resources efficiently, including personnel, finances, curriculum, and facilities, to support departmental or school-wide priorities and maximize educational outcomes.
